Netsuite Integration with Boomi – Perfect Together

Netsuite is a cloud-based ERP system with a broad range of built-in modules that cover everything from CRM to HR to Accounting. And, there are many high value opportunities to connect your other systems and business processes to Netsuite. I’m a certified Boomi Integrator, I’ve done Netsuite installations, and I know that Netsuite is a comprehensive and capable application. Because organizations that use it rely on Netsuite to be the primary source for operational and decision support information, there are many opportunities to integrate other systems with Netsuite.

Netsuite has a highly capable API, which provides address and update capability to the hundreds of Netsuite objects, plus custom fields and custom objects. But, the API is complex, detailed, and generates huge XML docs for the business objects. Custom integration normally requires custom development, a secure and scalable place to host the code, and some Suitescript on the Netsuite side. With Boomi you get a connector that is smart about the Netsuite API, and also the build, deploy and monitoring tools that you need for a reliable production integration.

Here are some sample business-level Integration Points with Netsuite, and my comments:

Order-to-cash:

You may have multiple sources for orders, including direct sales, eCommerce sites, and channels. All of these order sources should be integrated into your Netsuite CRM system. Plus, Netsuite should serve as the master for product catalog, pricing, and inventory levels. Netsuite is not great at subscriptions, service levels, and differences in revenue recognition events, so a third-party package like Zuora might be part of the solution, as well.

Business Intelligence:

Netsuite is sold to top management as a “Single source” of dashboards and data, but to realize the benefits, you have to bring a range of operational data into Netsuite. An e-commerce or SAAS model business will want to create an analytics data mart, and bring summaries into Netsuite. Netsuite has great dashboarding tools, but it is not the place for large volumes of detail-level data, for reasons including but not limited to the high cost of data storage in the Netsuite cloud.

Marketing Automation:

Netsuite is not as strong in marketing automation as specialist applications like Marketo or Eloqua, and some Netsuite customers will use such applications to manage lead generation and nurturing. These activities need to update the source CRM repository in Netsuite, to provide a single source for prospect and opportunity tracking. In addition, any web-centric business will want to bring web traffic, campaign, and SEO data into Netsuite.

Ecommerce Integration:

You want to capture your ecommerce orders accurately in Netsuite. Netsuite has its own ecommerce module, but many businesses will need more, or want to use their existing Margento or BigMachines ecommerce capabilities. Again, two way integration with Netsuite as the “Accounting” product and inventory master, and other platforms responsible for things like configuration, shopping cart, and payment processing.

That’s a few important integration points, based on my Netsuite experience. Netsuite is a comprehensive Accounting, CRM, ecommerce, services management, and dashboarding system that is the step up for many businesses outgrowing some form of Quickbooks. Boomi is a highly-capable cloud integration platform that can connect Netsuite to all of your other business functions and data.
